First of all, to pronounce the name correctly, the word "Dung" is pronounced as "Dzung".
Johnny Dung
was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on July 14 in the family of six
brothers and sisters. He is the youngest. He came to United States
when he was little, got adopted by an American family, grew up in
Alexandria, Virginia where he found his innermost passion: singing.
Johnny
Dung started his singing in his hometown in 1992. He moved to the
beautiful of Southern California in 1994 to follow his dream. He
taught mathematics in high schools to make a living. Life was not easy
for him. The Vietnamese Hollywood has been always corrupted and cruel
to the newcomers. Luckily, he was abled to find a night club to sing
locally to get started. Y Productions (belongs to the singers Y Nhi and Kenny Thai) signed him in for couple years.
After
finishing the contract, he went on his own. Asia Productions invited
him to appear as a guess off and on for about 5 years. Being with Asia
Productions for so long and contributing all his work and effort, the
company just only used him singing background vocals and group
appearance, let him only standing in the dim lights, wasting his youth
and talents with no compassion. Feeling so sad and dissappointed, he
left and tried to search for someone who could help him to reach to the
audience. Quang Nhat, a very smart and kind producer of a small
productions called NhacTre Music, saw something incredible, right away
he signed Johnny Dung a 2 years contract. Unfortunately since the
company has no music video to expose, the new producer could not push
Johnny Dung as much but they did make 4 solo albums and confirmed to
the listeners that Johnny Dung has an awesome sweet voice with an
incredible range of vocal.
In
1997, Tinh Music Productions got him to work on a duet CD "Xin Mua
Ngung Roi". Unexpectedly, the CD went Platinum got him became
popular. The producer signed him 3 years and had him to film many
music videos one after another. He got to do his solos and duets with
Ha Vy and Minh Tuyet. They all became well known in Vietnamese
Community. Finishing his contract and eventhough the producer asked
him to stay, he felt that the time had come. This time, he wanted to
do something on his own, not leaning on anybody anymore.
JDME
(Johnny Dung Music Entertainment) was born in 2002. People seemed not
to believe that he could survive on his own. He determined and started
with his first MTV music videos "NHOM BAN TRE in Hawaii". He also
released his first duet CD "Lien Khuc Yeu" with Minh Tuyet. The CD
went Platinum made him a solid stand in his carreer. He also released
3 solo albums, 5 other mixed CDs and they all also were very
successful. Asia Productions asked him to come back to work with
them. He tried and appeared in a few music videos with Asia but things
were still not right. Eventhough Asia is a big company and a good
place to be recognized, he did not care because he wanted to do music
with artistic feelings not commercially.
Until
now, JDME already released 5 MTV music videos. His sixth MTV music
video is on it way and ready to be released this year with full
potential. Johnny Dung's music videos don't have too many famous
singers but the videos are full of good songs, new good singers,
cultures and adventures. The audience could able to watch and learn so
much about the world around them besides listening to good music,
exposing to the new singers and feeling young at heart.
